I drink, I smoke, I get high. I'm not sure if I need help
You've been drinking or using for a while and most of the time you aren't worried about it. Most of your friends use too. Every once and awhile, though, you get really drunk or spend all your money on getting high and get mad at yourself. Or someone makes a comment about your use that gets your attention. But mostly you think you are doing okay.
A lot of people use drugs regularly and don't suffer serious problems as a result. You could be one of those people. Others drink or use drugs and get into trouble. Still others don't recognize the long term problems that can sneak up on you (like lung irritation from smoking too much pot). Check it out. Take some time to think, talk, read. If you enjoy getting high, and you don't want to get into trouble, here are some tips to consider.
How can you tell if you're using alcohol or other drugs safely?
- You drink or use mostly with other people, not alone.
- You don't drive (or ride a bike!) when you're high.
- You eat a regular diet and drink enough water.
- You are able to work, study and do other things you enjoy.
- You can say no if the time isn't right.
How can you tell if you're getting into trouble with alcohol or other drugs?
- You are using more than you want to.
- You are having trouble saying no when your friends offer even when you aren't in the mood to get high.
- You sometimes use more than you intended.
- Work, school, family or friends are suffering.
If you want some help doing a "check up" about your alcohol or drug use, give us a call. We can listen to you, help you analyze your use, and respect your decisions.
You don't have to change. You only have to want to talk.
