What Happens in Harm Reduction Therapy?

Harm reduction psychotherapy begins by talking with a therapist about the realities of your drug and alcohol use: how much, how often, in what situations, and why.  You can also talk about what else is important to you.  We give you information about how drugs work in the brain and help you evaluate both the harms and the benefits of using drugs or drinking.

Therapy is client directed and includes:

  • Assessment and awareness
  • Developing motivation and momentum for change
  • Solving barriers to change
  • Developing coping skills
  • Resolving relationship problems, traumatic experiences, and other life issues

Harm reduction therapy addresses the whole person by engaging each clients’ desire to improve their well being. We help craft a care plan that is specific to each person's need.

Clients may participate in individual sessions, groups or specialty coaching to reach their goals.
